Experiments
Fri 20 Oct 2023This week in Year 5 and 6 we used our scientific skills to follow instructions and then evaluate the investigation. We extracted DNA from strawberries! First, we mashed the strawberries and then mixed it with water, washing-up liquid and salt. Next, we filtered the concoction until only liquid remained. Finally, we carefully added ice-cold surgical spirits and white threads of strawberry DNA appeared! It was such an exciting experiment. Next week we will discuss how to improve the instructions.

Meet the Teacher
Fri 22 Sep 2023A huge thank you for all parents who attended the 'Meet and Greet' sessions this week. It was so lovely to see so many of you. I am sure you will join me in thanking the teachers who did a great job. They are very used to presenting in front of hundreds of children but standing up in front of a hall full of adults can be quite daunting! We hope that any questions you had have been answered, however, please don't hesitate to catch your teacher at the door if you have anything else you would like clarified.

Art
Fri 23 Jun 2023The lower phase have started looking at the work of Henri Rousseau, who is famous for his paintings of jungles. This links with our current topic of jungles and deserts. This week and last week, we headed out to the woodland area and did observational sketching of nature. We looked carefully at every leaf and twig we found, trying to capture every detail in our drawing. It was the perfect activity for a hot day!
