The school Governors are unpaid volunteers, who oversee the life and work of the school. We meet at least twice each term and receive reports from the Headteacher, members of staff and other professionals involved with the school. This information, along with the information gathered from our visits to the school, keeps us informed about what is happening day to day in school and helps us track how effectively the objectives of the school improvement plan are being achieved. As members of the Hertfordshire School Governors Association, the Governors actively attend training to ensure they fulfil their core responsibilities of setting the strategic direction of the school, holding the school to account and acting as critical friend to support the school's work. Governors are regularly in school and welcome comments and contact with parents.
Kath Burton, our Chair of Governors, sits as a member of the Spiral Partnership Trust Board. Moira White, our Headteacher attends the board meetings as an invited observer.
If you wish to contact a school governor please use the "contact us" facility on the website or ask at the school office, who will be happy to forward your query.
Correspondence for the personal attention of the Chair of Governors or Clerk of Governors should be addressed "care of" the school. If you require copies of Governors Minutes or Policies, these are available from the School Office free of charge.
- Kath Burton - Chair of Governors
Kath Burton is the role of Chair of Governors at Chaulden Junior School. Kath is a Chartered Accountant and mother of two young children. She works for an audit and accountancy firm based in London, with a specialism in charities and not for profit organisations. She has over 12 years professional experience in school governance and has been a governor herself for over 3 years. As well as being a member of the Chaulden governing body, Kath is also a trustee and director of Spiral Partnership Trust. Outside of work and her Trustee and Governor duties, time is taken up with a family life that in addition to her two children also includes a dog called Morpheus.
- Moira White - Headteacher
I have worked at several schools within Hertfordshire in St Albans, Redbourn, Harpenden and London Colney and previously in Eastleigh, Hampshire. I have taught across the primary age range, undertaken the role of SENCO and Deputy Headteacher and Chaulden Junior School is my third Headship. I have also coached and mentored senior teams in a number of Hertfordshire schools. I believe that putting the child at the heart of all the school does, relies on building a staff of professionals committed to achieving high standards, engaging learning opportunities and offering care and guidance to meet the needs of each individual. I enjoy working with the extended school community to create an environment where everyone contributes to its success. Chaulden Junior School is a lovely and welcoming school and I am proud to be part of the team here.
- Fiona Foulkes-Parent Governor
I am a Parent Governor, with two children attending Chaulden Junior School.
I have worked in the charity sector for over ten years, both in Australia and in the UK. Most recently I worked with the MS Society, managing large fundraising events. I have also worked with numerous volunteer committees to organise fundraising initiatives.
I want to ensure that every child at Chaulden Junior School reaches their potential and leaves the school with a broad range of experiences, achieved through sporting activities, cultural activities and school trips, as well as through learning in the classroom.
- Emma Reed - Co-opted Governor
I have been a teacher for sixteen years and involved in Chaulden Juniors for over eight years, as a parent, teacher, PTA trustee and governor. Before training to be a teacher, I worked as a personal assistant to a Member of the European Parliament and as an administrator at the University of Warwick. I started my teaching career in Coventry, moving to Hemel Hempstead in 2002, when I joined what was then Eastbrook Primary School in Grovehill. I came to work at Chaulden for a year in 2006, leaving when my eldest son joined the school! After that I worked at Roman Fields pupil referral unit, supporting young people who had been permanently excluded from school, and continued to work at Chaulden on things like individual tuition and providing supply cover. I returned to Chaulden permanently in the summer of 2014 as the teacher in Forest, our Speech & Language Base. I have two sons who are both at Hemel Hempstead School.
- Louise White - Community Governor
I am a Community Governor. I was also a pupil of Chaulden Infants and Chaulden Junior School a long time ago!
As a former dancer and dance teacher, I have been involved in arts in education since 1996. I worked as a freelance community dance artist, a dance development manager and later as an arts education development manager for an arts organisation in Yorkshire. I have worked in a range of school settings with pupils of all ages. I currently work across Dacorum delivering programmes of dance and arts activities within schools and communities. I work with a local arts organisation and deliver arts awards in school and support Artsmark. I am passionate about a strong creative and cultural education for all children and look forward to ensuring the children at Chaulden Junior School are able to achieve this.
Hayley Farrell - Staff Governor
Hello, my name is Hayley Farrell and I am a staff governor at the school. I am now into my 10th year of teaching and I have spent all of my teaching career so far at Chaulden Junior School, so I know the school very well! I love the ethos of our school and the joy our children show in their learning. I have also been incredibly proud to see the school grow and significantly improve during my time here. I currently teach in Ash class which is a Year 3 class and I am also the Phase Leader for Lower Key Stage 2. As well as this, I am now a trained Maths Specialist Teacher (MaST) and I have been leading Mathematics across the school for the past three years (a particular passion of mine!)
- Laura De Kock-Parent Governor
I have three children, two of whom are in Chaulden Junior School and my youngest is currently at Chaulden Infants. Having relocated from South Africa in 2015 we found that the school played an integral part of how well the children settled into a new country and a new routine and as such feel it is important to be active within the school community as a whole. I have been chair of the PTA at the Infants school for a number of years and find my most rewarding experiences are always those where what I do impacts the daily lives of the students. I have come from a business, arts and education background having previously co-owned an art gallery and pottery studio prior to moving into the supplementary education field as the Franchise Recruitment Manager for Kumon Education. Upon our relocation to the UK I took on an Area Manager role for a popular local website (and worked in the Infants school as an MSA). The website was then sold and I was offered a role as Sales and Marketing Manager for a local company who are the UK representatives for the Madrid trade fair centre, a role which I am still in today. Being a life-long learner I am looking forward to the opportunities learn and make a difference while in the role of Governor at the school.
- Hilary Aldridge-Co-opted Governor
I am a Co-opted Governor who lives locally. I work as an Investment Director for Deutsche Asset Management. In prior roles I have focused on managing and developing socially responsible investments for organisations such as Big Issue Invest and F&C Asset Management.
Outside of work and governor duties, I have two children at primary school. I also enjoy running, and help to organise a local 10k race. I am looking forward to contributing to Chaulden Junior School's governing body.
Signed Minutes and Agenda of future Governors' Meetings are available at the school office free of charge.
